HOW 2 MAKE ARM WARMERS!!! out of socks.

yeah there's shit here what now I AM SCARED OF THIS I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING BUT I'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE AND IT FEELS LIKE MY SOUL IS GETTING PLAYED WITH okay

step 1: get yer socks. any socks. today i'm using pony socks, i got these back in december and have been putting it off.



step 2: cut off the tip. a lot of socks have either a color block or a separation in the weave where you should cut. just try to fold as flat as possible. scissors to show where to cut roughly.



step 3: put them on and cut off the heel. sometimes it's horizontal, sometimes it's vertical, but whatever part pokes up from your arm weird is the part you need to cut. you can also find this by putting it on the floor and unbending the sock so the top and the bottom are straight with one another, and then cutting what's in the fold, i do not have pictures of this but the closest thing to it is in the next step.



step 4: sew the part you just cut closed. press the seams together like this (first picture) and then just go for it with whatever stitch you please, the lesser the space between stitches the better because it's got a dense weave and lots of stretch. if you have sensory problems with the seam being on the inside, you can sew the wrong sides together so the seam is on the outside, and then patch it with the part of the heel you removed from it. or anything, really.



step 5: sew the raw edges. if you skip this step, it's negatable if it's really a bad thing for arm warmer socks because sometimes the fraying is stylistically nice. but the hemming is Also stylistically nice. i have included pictures of a pair i made probaby 5ish years ago that are unhemmed and well loved to give you an idea of damage it may take, especially if you add a thumb hole. Oh yeah, you can add a thumb hole to make it into a glove. that is a thing. :D
this part can be annoying, and i have to press and hold my stitch width while i'm using it so i only have one hand to hold it with when i'm going. i hold it like this and pull it through the machine with my finger strength. it may be hard for you to do that, though, yippee! in that case i'd say ask a friend for help, or use a paper to stabilize so it doesn't get sucked into your machine all the time. also seek out lettuce hem guides. lettuce hems are used a lot in alternative fashion... and i am not complaining... let's all be fairies!!
